Barnsley have completed the signing on Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong on loan until January 2017.

The reds fought off a whole host of other clubs to secure his signature according to the official website.

Armstrong spent last season on loan at Coventry City in League One where he impressively bagged 20 goals in 40 appearances.

Armstrong is a graduate of the Newcastle academy and has represented England at multiple age groups. He has scored 23 goals in 36 appearances at the various levels he has represented.

On paper this looks like a good signing and hopefully it proves to be the case. I am just a bit baffled as to why Newcastle would allow one of their players to go out to one of their promotion rivals ; )

It will be interesting to see what happens with the strikers at the club now with Armstrong, Winnall, Bradshaw, Payne and Watkins all competing for places up top.

They all bring something a bit a different and in Winnall, Bradshaw and Armstrong we have three strikers who scored 20 goals in League One last season so hopefully hitting the net in the Championship will prove no problem as well.
