Barnsley have announced the signing of central defender Adam Jackson from Middlesbrough. The 22 year old signed a three year deal at Oakwell and has signed for an undisclosed fee.

Jackson has a reputation of being a tall, powerful, ball playing centre half with an eye for goal so it certainly sounds like he is a direct replacement for Mawson and that could be it in terms of centre half recruitment.

Last season he enjoyed a loan spell at League Two Hartlepool where he made 25 appearances and bagged three goals. He was also voted the clubs young player of the year.

Jackson is a graduate of the Middlesbrough academy and has represented England at all levels from Under 16 level to Under 19 level.

Again on paper this looks like another good signing for the reds. Hopefully he can step in to void left by Alfie Mawson.
