Ahead of Championship defeat against Bristol City on Saturday, Barnsley secured the signings of Blackpool’s Brad Potts and Accrington Stanley’s Matty Pearson.

Potts, who helped inspire Blackpool to League Two promotion via the play-offs last season, was signed for an undisclosed amount.

The versatile midfielder has plenty of Football League experience as Potts, 23, had made almost 200 appearances from his time at Carlisle and Blackpool – he’s signed a three year deal with the option of a fourth.

Delighted by his arrival, Paul Heckingbottom told the Official Website: ‘Brad is a player we`re really happy to sign. He`s shown real progression and ability throughout his time in football and is someone we have wanted to bring to the Club for a while. He brings something different to our midfield areas with his height and strength, as well as having the ability to break through down the wing or through the middle and score goals or drop deeper to protect the defence. We look forward to integrating him into the squad and seeing him on the pitch.’

He was followed by defender Pearson, who became Barnsley’s 11th summer signing.

Pearson, starting his career at Blackburn before having spells at Rochdale and Halifax, had been a regular and standout performer for Accrington since joining the League Two side in 2015, making over 100 appearances for Stanley.

Like Potts, Pearson, 24, scorer of an impressive nine goals from defence last season, has signed a three year deal that also comes with an option for a further 12 months.

‘We`re really pleased to get Matty to the Club. This is a deal we have moved quickly on once we knew he was available and I am happy we could get it over the line. For a tall fullback, Matty has some exceptional qualities that we feel we can work with and make better. He has heard everything we had to say and really bought into our ideas of what we want to do at the Club. This is an excellent deal and I look forward to now working with Matty and the rest of the squad as we begin the new season,’ Heckingbottom commented on the Official Website.
