Atkinson allowed on-loan to Grimsby

Barnsley’s young defender Rob Atkinson has signed for League Two outfit, Grimsby Town on-loan.

The 21-year-old had a successful loan spell at Blundell Park last year, and new boss Mike Newell has secure the centre half’s services until early January 2009.

Atkinson made 20 appearances for Town last season, and has been allowed to join the League Two strugglers by Tykes boss Simon Davey.

The big defender has only made ten first team appearances at Oakwell, but has had other loan spells with Halifax, Rochdale and Scarborough.
