Barnsley’s start to the season has been a turbulent one, with the coming and going of managers and players, heavy defeats and thrilling victories, but it has also been somewhat average when you look at their previous three seasons back in the Championship.

So far the Reds have picked up fourteen points from their opening twelve games, which, when compared with last seasons eleven looks way better, but in the 2007/08 season at this point in the season the Reds were sitting pretty in eighth place with a commendable seventeen points.

In the Reds’ first season back in the Championship after their four year absence they managed twelve points from their opening twelve games. So after a quarter of the season, Barnsley don’t look to be fairing too badly if seasons past are anything to go by.

Unfortunately if superstitions and luck are anything to go by the Reds might be lucky to get a draw at Forest on Tuesday, having never scored in their thirteenth league match back in the Championship, losing 2-0 to Sunderland, 2-0 to Leicester City and scraping a 0-0 draw with Bristol City.
