Barnsley succumbed to League One Coventry City in the third round of the FA cup following another dismal display at Oakwell.

This performance shows there is a lot of work to do if Barnsley are to have any hope of Championship survival.

More worrying is the fact that if we do go down then this squad looks like it would struggle to be competitive in the league below.

The defending for both Coventry goals from both of our centre backs was appalling. I am convinced that had our best centre half, Cranie, had been there then both goals would have been prevented.

Cranie has been our best player for a while now but was poor at right back where Wiseman has to be restored for the next game.

I would like to see Cranie and Nyatanga tried together at centre half as Ramage and Mvoto just aren`t up to it.

The majority of Barnsley fans have taken an extreme dislike to Tom Kennedy. Maybe we do need a new left back but I find it baffling that he is the one facing all of the criticism for this defeat on social media when our two centre backs allow us to concede two goals like that.

Many fans have also criticised the decision to play one striker at home then in same breath criticised the decision to bring both Scotland and Pedersen on together as ‘neither are good enough`.

I think both of those two can be good impact players who could get a goal but that is why Wilson opted for one up front, quite simply because we don`t have the options.

Many fans are all too eager to criticise yet contradict themselves at the same time.

We are in a mess no doubt and it will take some sorting out. No matter how much activity we have in January, it still may not be enough.

I don`t think Wilson realised just how big the task would be that he has taken on, he is the right man for the job however but needs time and patience from the fans.

Looking at the state of the performances and the squad so far this season, it seems even more remarkable what we managed to achieve by staying up last season.
