This afternoon there will be some familiar faces on the TV as New Zealand take on Slovakia in their opening group game in the FIFA World Cup.

Former Barnsley players Leo Bertos and Rory Fallon will line up at kick off to be watched by millions and David Mulligan and Jeremy Christie will be hoping for a chance to come off the bench.

It`s obviously a little more difficult to get excited about ex-Barnsley players featuring in the World Cup, even though there are no current Barnsley stars in the competition.

The link seemed a little tenuous to me to write about, so I stuck some money on New Zealand to make it a bit more interesting.

Now I`m rooting for Fallon again, something I never thought I’d do after his celebration of the goal he scored for Swansea City against us in the Play-Off final in Cardiff in 2006, but here I am, eyes glued to the screen and fingers crossed for Bambi!
