James Bailey’s future will be away from Oakwell with it decided, in the best interests of all parties, leaving Barnsley would be for the right thing.

Bailey, signed last summer following his release by Derby, has been released midway through his two-year deal with the Tykes following a mutual consent agreement that was confirmed today on barnsleyfc.co.uk.

This release will allow him to ‘pursue other football opportunities’ with this statement of course thanking him and wishing him well.

‘The Club would like to thank James for his services over the past 12 months and wish him well for the future.’

In all competitions Bailey did make 29 appearances for us last season but with Lee Johnson, of course not the man that signed the 26-year-old, adding other midfield options to his squad it wasn’t looking that likely he would be a first-team regular under him.

Fair play to Bailey for agreeing to a mutual release though, some would have dug their heels in and stayed!
