Adam Hammill will now spend the remainder of the season with Barnsley with it confirmed today his short-term contract has been extended until the end of the campaign.

Hammill, who had been a free agent after his release by Huddersfield in the summer, returned to club he had previously signed for from Liverpool in 2009 and spent two-year before leaving for Wolves on a short-term deal in November.

These performances, which have seen him impress in this brief spell to date, have left Lee Johnson in little doubt that he’ll be an important asset well worth keeping at Oakwell until the end of the season (at least) and that’s why he’s been happy for him to stay with the Reds.

After signing a new deal that takes him through until 30th June the Head Coach told the Official Website.

‘Adam made no secret of his desire to stay at Barnsley and we’re naturally delighted to have secured his services to the end of the season. It’s clear that Adam is passionate about this Football Club, he’s committed to the cause and he has proven qualities, so it’s a deal that I’m thrilled to get over the line and we can now plan for the second half of the season with Adam a key part of our squad.

‘You only have to look at the way he celebrated his goal on Saturday to see just how big a connection he has with the fans, so I’m sure they’re just as pleased as I am to have him on board for the remainder of the season. Adam has undisputed talent and he’ll be a big asset to us over the coming months, starting with a huge game against Colchester on Saturday.’

Since his return to the club he’s, with an instant impact made, added to his previous performances making another six and scoring another two-goals.

A stay for the remainder of the season, as a minimum, was always the intention of the 27-year-old so it goes without saying he too was also happy.

Hammill added.

‘I’m delighted to get my immediate future sorted out and commit myself to the Club for the remainder of the season. Since coming back I’ve enjoyed every minute and I’ve said all along that I would love to remain here beyond January. We have a great bunch of lads here and I really feel at home, so I didn’t give it a second thought when I got the opportunity to sign until June. I can’t wait to get going again and carry on where we left off on Saturday!’
