As most were settling down, or at least thinking of settling down, for a Sunday Roast the signing of Ryan Williams was announced with barnsleyfc.co.uk confirming his return to the club on a permanent basis on Sunday lunchtime.

Williams, formerly of Portsmouth, has signed a two-year deal with Barnsley with an undisclosed amount agreed with Fulham for his permanent return to Oakwell following on from his loan spell last season.

Speaking after the confirmation of his signing Williams, clearly happy to be back at the club and working with Lee Johnson, said.

‘I’m delighted to have joined Barnsley Football Club on a permanent basis, as I much admire the playing philosophy of Lee Johnson.

‘I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with Lee Johnson on a daily basis and to have the platform of this great Club with its wonderful supporters to showcase my talent and skills.’

With young talent, such as Marc Roberts and Alfie Mawson to name but two, given a chance in the first-team the winger feels that it’s an ideal club for him to continue his development as he knows this proves he’ll get a chance alongside those and others.

The 21-year-old also highlighted the fact Man United youngster Ben Pearson opted for the Reds ahead of a possible Championship loan, with interest shown, also encourages him this is the right move.

Head Coach Johnson added.

‘It’s fantastic that Ryan Williams has decided to join Barnsley Football Cub today. I have admired Ryan Williams for a long time, especially since he played for Barnsley against Oldham last season.’

Johnson went onto say that further signing, the quality of the Australian winger who left Portsmouth for Fulham as a teenager but found his first-team chances limited, are being worked on with him praising Patrick Cryne and Ben Mansford for getting this deal signed off.

Williams only made six appearances during a brief loan at Oakwell last season but he made an impression and the next two-years, at least as there’s the option of a third, should see him impressing regularly!
