The final match had Barnsley knowing a win would confirm a play-off spot.

Both Scunthorpe and Gillingham hoped for a Barnsley slip up against League 1 Champions Wigan so one of them could come through to finish sixth.

This didn’t happen with us winning four-one at the DW Stadium!

Will Grigg’s goal had Wigan ahead, and would have had us worried, but Sam Winnall’s penalty had level before his second put is ahead. Second half goals from Conor Hourihane and Josh Brownhill confirmed the win and our sixth placed finish.

The Latics ended with 10-men with Chris McCann dismissed in injury-time.

As it happens Gillingham lost two-one against play-off rivals Millwall but as Scunthorpe won two-nil at Sheffield United they would have overtaken us, our goal-difference is better than the Iron so we’ll take on Walsall (who missed automatic promotion despite a five-nil win at Port Vale) in the play-off semi-final.

The Reds do this knowing we’re two-matches from a second Wembley appearance this season having already won the JPT in February.
