Barnsley boss David Flitcroft has admitted he wouldn`t stand in the way of Jacob Mellis if a Premier League club came in for him with a decent offer.

Mellis` form in pre-season has led to speculation that this time next season he could be a Premier League player.

The Barnsley boss admitted that you can`t stand in a player`s way if opportunities such as that do arise and that it is his job to develop the player so such opportunities present themselves for the player and indeed the club.

The worrying thing for me is that Mellis is out of contract at the end of the season. However I believe he needs to prove himself for a full season in the Championship before the big boys come knocking. This is something he has yet to achieve and I`m sure he will be striving for a more consistent season this time around.
