Barnsley are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Paul Heckingbottom and Tommy Wright in the Barnsley win over Bury was enough to earn them a place in the side as the managers of the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Heckingbottom and Wright were selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the Football League blurb read.

‘ It’s been a crazy few days at Oakwell.

‘On Thursday, Barnsley reached the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final. A day later, manager Lee Johnson was in discussions about taking the Bristol City job, and on Saturday his appointment at the Robins was confirmed.

‘So full credit to this caretaker duo, who ensured the team were fully focussed on picking up a seventh straight Sky Bet League 1 victory, which they did on Sunday afternoon by defeating Barnsley 3-0.’

It’s always good to see us represented in this way, and well played to them for this recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course Barnsley reacting positively with a three-nil win.

Full Team – Scott Shearer (Mansfield Town), Bojan Jokic (Nottingham Forest), Leon Legge (Cambridge United), Adam Barrett (Southend United), Mahlon Romeo (Millwall), Jamie Murphy (Brighton & Hove Albion), Joey Barton (Burnley), Bradden Inman (Crewe Alexandra), Tom Naylor (Burton Albion), Jobi McAnuff (Leyton Orient), Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday).

Manager – Paul Heckingbottom and Tommy Wright (Barnsley)
