I must admit that I didn`t rate Golbourne early on in the season and it was only when injury forced him out of the team that I realised how important he was in the Barnsley set-up.

Many things frustrated me about him early on and I think it is mainly because he has all of the tools to be a really good player but holds himself back which I think is due to a lack of confidence himself.

I even spent the entire season calling him GolDbourne in reference to the fact that I felt he was the golden boy of the Barnsley team and couldn`t understand why he hadn`t been dropped.

I never got on at the player on here or in the ground as I don`t believe in doing that at all, the ‘D` in his name was just my little joke to myself and a few friends.

I will now take back my initial opinion of Golbourne and I now appreciate what he does for the team and we certainly looked a better team with him in it.

I hope this injury doesn`t set him back and he can improve further now that he has over a season of Championship experience.

If asked to do this rating before his injury it would have been a lot lower but time to reflect is a wonderful thing and the impact he has on the team is as great as any of his team mates.

Golbourne season rating 8.
