Paul Heckingbottom made fewer changes on Tuesday as the Barnsley boss looked to give players more game time, which meant several played the full 90 minutes in the win over Coventry.

The League Two side, dropping into the Football Leagues basement level last season, were beaten 3-1 at Oakwell.

Barnsley went ahead through Stevie Mallan, one to complete the full 90, with Stefan Payne adding a second before half time leaving the Reds in control.

Experienced forward Stuart Beavon got the better of Barnsley goalkeeper Nick Townsend early in the second half but Tom Bradshaw, on in the second half, secured a victory for the Reds when the forward added a third at the midway point of the second period.

Townsend (GK); McCarthy, Pinnock, Jackson, Fryers (Yiadom); Mallan, Moncur (Bird), Mowatt (Sessi), Isgrove (Hammill); Brown (Ugbo), Payne (Bradshaw).
