Barnsley have signed striker John Cofie on a one year deal with the option of a second year should his first season be a success.

Cofie was signed on a free transfer after Manchester United deemed him surplus to requirements at the end of last season.

The 20 year old had spells on loan at Sheffield United and Notts County last season and has previously been loaned out to Royal Antwerp.

Barnsley boss David Flitcroft told the official website ‘I`ve seen him when he was a kid at Burnley. He`s a player of immense potential and immense talent.

‘I don`t think he`ll be ready for the start of the season. There`s bags of potential there. Once we`d evaluated him over the week`s training, the decision was to sign him was easy.`

The signing of another striker now gives Barnsley boss David Flitcroft a squad he feels now has everything and the right amount of bodies for every position and any eventuality.

Does this mean the summer signing is over? Not by any means. If the right players are available then Flicker will pounce. Whether that be permanent signings or using the loan market once season starts.

As for Cofie, how do reds fans rate this signing?
