When Barnsley take on Rotherham in this summer`s pre-season friendly, the venue will be not be Millmoor but the Valley Stadium.

Rotherham United have had to leave Millmoor after extensive talks with the ground`s owners broke down. Millmoor has been the home of Rotherham United for over a hundred years, but now the Millers will start next season over five miles away at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.

Although it may be claimed that the Don Valley Stadium is better in terms of facilities, no one can deny that home is where the heart is, and Millers fan`s hearts will be left behind at Millmoor come August.

Barnsley`s last visit to Millmoor ended in a 1-0 win for the Tykes as Martin Devaney came off the bench to secure the three points for Andy Ritchie`s men back in 2006.

I think it’s fair to say that all Millers fans are gutted

i know mate, i wudnt want to leave Oakwell. People talk about new stadiums and how brilliant they are – id rather visit an old ground with soul, character and history. real football happens at real grounds.

I thought that for a long time, I was quite happy going to the delapadated Belle Vue for years. Now we are at the keepmoat I am so glad the move was made.
