With Barnsley still to appoint a permanent manager we examine the current situation at Oakwell.

As we understand it, Micky Mellon will be given a minimum of one more game to prove his credentials.

Defeat against Yeovil would almost certainly rule him out of the running where as a victory would put him in prime position for the role until the end of the season.

If Mellon does fail then we understand that Mike Phelan is the clubs top target.

Rumours were rife that Michael Appleton is a strong contender due to his relationship with Ben Mansford.

As we understand it however, Appleton is the clubs back-up choice and will only be offered the position if Mellon fails and the clubs other targets don`t want the job.

Appleton would almost certainly accept the job despite being bottom of the pile. I do worry where we will end up though if it does come to that.
