As a Barnsley fan it with great sadness that we see the end of Bobby Hassell`s illustrious career at Oakwell.

Sir Bobby has been a true Barnsley legend having spent ten years with the club. He is a legend in every sense. Not just as a footballer but also with his community and charity work.

Bobby has been involved in many great things at Oakwell over the last ten years. He was part of the team that won promotion back to the Championship with that play-off victory in Cardiff in 2006.

He was also part of that great run to the FA cup semi-final at Wembley which saw us beat both Liverpool and Chelsea on the way.

It is unfortunate that his release comes at the end of a season which saw the reds relegated back to League One which is where we were when we first signed Bobby from Mansfield Town.

You could however argue that lack of minutes on the pitch this season makes Bobby exempt from any part of this relegation.

No matter how it ended for Bobby at Oakwell, he will always be a true Barnsley legend. I would like to wish Sir Bobby all the best for the remainder of his playing career and hope to see him back at Oakwell at some point in the future in a coaching capacity.
