It’s always nice when your players win games. You’d prefer them to do it in your team’s colours of course, but hey, in the words of Mick Jagger, you can’t always get what you want.

Coulo grabbed his first goal for lowly Chester City when they took the lead on 30 minutes, only for an ex-Barnsley player to cancel it out 2 minutes later – Fola Onibuje getting his name on the scoresheet for Grays Athletic. Chester City recorded a vital win however, with two goals from Chadwick either side of half-time to reduce their points defecit to just -4.

Kayode Odejayi scored yet another goal for Colchester United as they beat Bromley 4-0 to progress to the second round of the F.A. Cup. He won’t be scoring a wonder goal for us in that cup this season then.

Another figurehead of Barnsley’s F.A. Cup run in 2008, Martin Devaney, enjoyed his second successive win with his new side MK Dons as they progressed to round 2 with a 1-0 victory over Macclesfield at Stadium MK. Unfortunately for him he came off with an injury after just 22 minutes of play.

Finally, Simon Heslop played 90 minutes for the Poppies as Kettering helped themselves to a cup shock of their own, sinking Hartlepool United at Victoria Park 1-0.

Hopefully, the winning and goal-scoring ways will be with the players who are still in Barnsley shirts, when they take to the Oakwell pitch in what promises to be the most hotly contested derby between the Reds and Sheffield United for years.
