Barnsley have announced a contract extension for Jamie Clapham.

Clapham came to Oakwell last September and has proven an important addition to Paul Heckingbottom’s coaching staff.

He’ll now remain at Barnsley having signed a new deal on Friday.

A statement on the Official Website read: ‘We can today confirm that First Team Coach Jamie Clapham has agreed a new contract to remain at Barnsley Football Club.’

It wasn’t actually revealed how long the contract was? But I’m assuming this will be for a minimum of the season to come at least.

The statement added: ‘He is now continuing to progress his coaching skills and has helped the development of players both in the first team and youth set-up at the Club.’

Former Ipswich left back Clapham, who enjoyed a long and distinguished career, told the Official Website he didn’t have any doubt about extending his deal.

‘I am really pleased to have signed a new deal and to be staying here. Ever since I have come in I have felt at home with both the excellent coaching staff already here and the players. They are a great bunch who have listened to what we want them to do and I feel we delivered that during last season. Both Hecky and I have different approaches to the game which helps in different areas, but ultimately we both want the same thing which is results on the pitch. I am really looking forward to the rest of pre-season and the games getting back underway.’

Barnsley boss Heckingbottom was obviously pleased the Reds could not only reach an agreement with Clapham but manage to do this quickly to get his future done and dusted. This will enable the coaching staff to continue implementing the plans they have.

He added: ‘I am glad we`ve been able to agree a new deal for Claps and to do it quickly. He`s been great to work with and has fitted in really well here, as well as giving his own ideas to help the team. We`ve spoken at length about our extensive plans going forward and what we are looking for with the players, both on and off the pitch. We`ve all put in the hard-work so far during pre-season and we want the matches now!’
