It may yet come as news to a small minority, but Barnsley Football Club owner Patrick Cryne has held talks over selling the club recently.

Cryne, a Barnsley supporter himself, made it clear from the outset when he took over ownership of the club in 2004 that he didn’t want his tenure to be a long term thing and that he would be willing to keep the club ticking over financially until a suitable party could be found to take over the club.

However in recent weeks, it has been reported that Cryne has been suffering from ill health and is therefore looking to do business sooner rather than later.

Don Rowing told The Star: ‘Patrick`s got health issues and we`ve been in regular contact about what he`s going to do. But at this time we just want to give him time and space to let him decide what he wants to do.’

Whatever happens, Barnsley fans owe Patrick a massive debt of gratitude for his own support and financial backing through a difficult period for both the club and the sport in general.
