As had been recently speculated the exit of Cole Kpekawa was concluded on Monday evening.

Barnsley’s Kpekawa has returned to previous loan club Colchester.

A statement on the Official Website read: ‘The defender has today left Oakwell on a permanent basis. Having joined the Reds in the summer of the 2016/17 season, the 21-year-old made a handful of appearances for the first team on the left-hand-side of defence.’

The former QPR left back was indeed limited to a ‘handful’ of games for Barnsley as Kpekawa made just seven Championship appearances for the Reds.

Kpekawa might have re-joined Colchester permanently, he had a six game loan spell from QPR in the 2014-15 season, but his return to Essex has come with the fee remaining undisclosed along with the actual length of his deal with the U’s.

The Reds statement added: ‘He now joins the U`s on a permanent basis and we would like to wish him the best of luck with the rest of his career.’
