Barnsley’s first defeat under Lee Johnson, and first in 10-matches overall when we lost to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, means we go to relegation threatened Colchester needing to win today.

A run of draws, then that two-nil defeat, has seen us slip out and away from the play-offs so if we want to catch Chesterfield we can’t afford anything less than a win at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Colchester could have Tosin Olufemi (torn Achilles) back from a long-term injury but Matthew Briggs (suspension) is out but the hosts don’t have any other concerns.

A reaction to that first defeat under Johnson is needed and positively the squad isn’t thought to have any major doubts but some ‘assessment’ could be needed.

Mason Holgate (hamstring) played the full 90-minutes against Sheffield United and will be check on with Peter Ramage seeking a recall, he’s missed the recent squads because of our number of loanees we have. It’s highly likely that ‘keeper Adam Davies (abdomen) will miss out again.

This would be a game we would have targeted for all three-points in our run in but Colchester winning on Friday and us losing on Saturday, with them having the extra day to recover, will make a tough game tougher but if we want to make the top six we’ve simply got to win!

Will we?
