Martin Cranie has stepped up, technically back up, to a level he’s more than comfortable at with him having plenty of previous at Championship level, well some at Premier League level too.

After three-seasons with Barnsley Cranie parted company with us at the end of last season. Now the former Southampton, Portsmouth and Coventry defender is back in the Championship with Huddersfield.

Having enjoyed a successful trial this summer Chris Powell gave him a one-year contract at the John Smith’s Stadium after getting this contract, which he was relieved and delighted by, he’s told the BBC the top half is his aim.

‘I think the goal is to just keep on improving and push for the top half.

‘It’s been a long summer to be honest and I’m delighted to get the deal done.

‘I’ve played with (captain) Mark Hudson before and we know a bit about each other’s game and that can be a massive help.’

Obviously where he, and the Terriers finish, isn’t of concern to us in the slightly but I’ll keep an eye out, simply to see how frequently, or not as the case may be, the former England U21 international is featuring in the Championship.

I still think it something of a shame the 28-year-old didn’t remain at Oakwell but players come and players go, it wasn’t meant to be that he would remain part of the squad under Lee Johnson and we move on!
