Former Derby defender Darren Moore hails Barnsley boss Simon Davey and explains what convinced him to sign for the Tykes.

‘It was quite exciting coming back in for training with Derby and having so much interest shown in me. There was interest from Leicester and Bradford. A few other names were mentioned as well. Even though I had a year left on my contract at Derby County it was nice to see there were still clubs wanting my services. I sat back and waited to see what happened. I had a great feeling about Barnsley. When I knew they were interested I thought, ‘This is the one’.

‘The manager Simon Davey really impressed me with his enthusiasm. That played a big part in convincing me to sign. He believes they are a great team. He’s got good reason to – you don`t get to the semi-finals of the FA Cup if you aren`t a good side, especially if you beat Liverpool and Chelsea along the way.

‘Looking at some of Barnsley`s results against the top teams in the Championship last season proves there are some really good players here. It’s a team where something special is about to happen.’
