Barnsley midfielder Stephen Dawson has publicly apologised to Barnsley fans following his reaction to an individual fans` personal abuse towards him following the full time whistle at Huddersfield.

Dawson said ‘Firstly I would like to apologise for my actions on Saturday. My emotions were high and I shouldn`t have reacted the way I did.

‘I`m really disappointed with what was said to me but I need to be professional enough to take that. The fans have paid an awful lot of money to come and see us and to lose five-nil; I can understand their frustrations and disappointment.

‘I can only apologise on my behalf and assure all the supporters it won`t happen again.`

Dawson is also going to make a significant donation to Barnsley Hospice.
