Flicker Factor

In a first half in was apparent that the reds wanted to be hard to beat. Barnsley had the majority of the possession though created little. The biggest openings appeared to come when John Stones got forward down the right, or with Etuhu bringing the ball into empty space from the deep midfield roll. Millwall appeared to be set up to take a draw and were very negative.

The second half Barnsley came out looking for 3 points and all credit goes to Flitcroft for this, he could have easily settled for maintaining his unbeaten start.

Jim O’Brien was at the centre of all the good work Barnsley completed in the second half. Barnsley ruled the first ten minutes of the second half and got their reward on 57 when Harewood slipped through Dagnall who kept all his cool to slip the ball past the hopeless Forde.

Millwall rang the changes bringing on new boy Rob Hulse, however only one man was going to have a dream debut and that would be the Tykes new boy Jason Scotland. In the 66th minute another slick Barnsley move played in Scotland who lashed the ball home, as he would have done in his days at Swansea City.

Following this Barnsley were still the better team, however they did become nervous and stopped going forward. In our position I am sure we can understand this.

Late on Danny Rose the Young Barnsley Forward challenged Danny Shittu for a ball in front of the Ponty End, Shittu went over and the two had words. This went onto the final whistle when Shittu refused to shake the hand of the young red.

Can’t Leave it on that note. David Flitcroft thank you for motivating the players and making us hard to beat, we were staring down the barrel now we see light. Lets ensure the light continues to get brighter!

It was my first game back in a few years with site editor chiefred…. I will be back and I have the Oakwell bug. I urge others to join me 7844 is not enough bums on seats. The players are giving 120% lets get behind them.

Player Ratings

Steele
Did what was required on a quiet night for the reds skipper, nearly caught out by the wind in second half 7

Golbourne
Great workrate down the left, only negative would be that he became very negative once we were in front. 7

Stones
One stray pass in the second half, other than this brillant. Premier league player. 8

Foster
Quality won so many headers, I think his agent was sat behind me in the second half, every time he won the ball we all heard about it! My rating may have been influenced. 8

Cranie
Went about his job kept the strike force quiet. 7

Kennedy
Like Cranie did not give Millwall any chance coming forward, Kennedy also gave the reds bits going forward 7

O’Brien
Emphasised what the whole team are showing under the Flitcroft revival. High work rate and committed to the cause. Jim also looked good going forward and contributed the most of the 3 midfielders. 9

Etuhu
Did what was required, went forward well when the space opened up. Could maybe have put foot in more? Kept Trotter who I feared prior to the game very, very quiet. 7

Perkins
Here, there and everywhere. massive player for the team and cause 8

Harewood
Gave it a good go, though I have to say he is not the natural goalscorer. Showed how much he cared when Daggers netted. 7

Dagnall
4 in 4 for the tyke goal getter, ran the line and got his goal. Did not set the game alight but found the net 7

Scotland
Second touch lashed home, came deep to get the ball and linked in. If he can continue taking chances like he did tonight he will do for me! 7

Mellis
Got stuck in tonight, his touch was a little out. 6
Again showed how much it means by taking on Danny Shittu. Shittu you would never ever catch him! 6

Manager Rating
Wow, the players are playing for Flitcroft everyone showed passion. Flitcroft give us a wave rang out of the Ponty End.

Someone leaving ground
Danny Shittu, Pick on someone your own size you Bully.

Glad to have you back oldtime, another good performances for the reds and I’m starting to believe we can stay up despite still being 4 points from safety.
