It’s a turn up for the books when a manager will praise another side’s performance and at the same time criticise that of his own.

However, Billy Davies did just that last night in reaction to his team’s performance against Barnsley in the 2-2 draw at the City Ground.

He told Forest’s official site: ‘I’m delighted to have got something and at the end of it all it’s a great point.’

Barnsley led Forest 2-0 with just over 20 minutes left to play, but the game ended 2-2, preserving Forest’s amazing unbeaten home run and extending it to 31 matches.

He continued: ‘We told the players about the need to go and raise their game against Barnsley and make sure we did the right things. But we did the opposite in the opening 45 minutes. Our energy was poor and so was our play and at 2-0 down we had got what we deserved.’

Barnsley were particularly aggrieved with the decision given against them which awarded Nottingham Forest a penalty and the chance to get back into the game, when the consensus was that the challenge was outside the box.
