In the wake of Barnsley’s opening pre-season friendly, a 3-3 draw at National League Guiseley on Tuesday, the Reds are now prioritising the recruitment of a new striker, in fact a couple perhaps?

The Star reports Barnsley’s interest in Brad Potts ‘has hit a snag.’ This snag being the claims, which we’ve already covered, of Barnsley’s offer of £500,000 not being enough as Blackpool want £750,000 – ‘with a number of other clubs believed interested’ in the midfielder.

Barnsley have been linked with Wigan’s Will Grigg, who couldn’t follow up an impressive League One season with goals in the Championship, he managed just five last season after 29 in all competitions, for club and country, the campaign before.

It doesn’t appear progress has been made with the Northern Ireland international.

Doncaster’s John Marquis has also been mentioned after scoring 26 goals as Rovers returned to the Championship. The former Millwall forward has reportedly turned down a new deal at the Keepmoat Stadium but Barnsley will miss out on Reading’s Dominic Samuel to Blackburn, who ‘are close to signing the player,’ reports the Star.

Chief executive Gauthier Ganaye knows Barnsley need to do deals but has also insisted the Reds WILL do them.

He was quoted by the Star: ‘We need the business to be done – and it will be done.’

Another name mentioned is Swansea’s young forward Oliver McBurnie, formerly at Bradford, he did get some Premier League involvement last season.
