The returned Adam Hammill couldn’t have been more pleased to play his part in getting Barnsley back to winning ways in last night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory over York.

Taking the Man of the Match award for his showing, he told the Official Site in his own post game press conference.

‘I`m delighted on a personal basis but more so for the lads. The past week I`ve seen the talent but the lads needed geeing up. We needed to end the streak and we`re delighted to get the win and we`re now only a few games away from Wembley. We have to take that into Saturday and every league game. I think I`ve come in and added a little bit of experience and I`ve taken that responsibility and I`m thriving on it.’

As well as scoring the winner on the day, he also provided the assist for Ben Pearson’s goal which levelled the scores for us having gone behind to their early goal.

‘I`m over the moon. I got ball out wide and thought I had the beating of the full back all night. I jinked inside him a few times and had only one intention, to put the ball in the top corner. I`ve done that here a few times but none of them were as sweet as that let me tell you.’

With it being a second Oakwell spell for the player, he went on to say that making the return to us was easy because of his fondness for the club.

‘I hold a lot of fond memories of this place and hold the people and fans in high regard. They gave me an opportunity to showcase myself and I`m here again today the same. The fans have welcomed me back with open arms and that was one of the main reasons why I re-joined because I had a few options. Personally it was about getting somewhere I felt at home and loved and that`s why I believe will happen here.’
