Barnsley are set to sign striker Marlon Harewood on a one year contract.

Harewood has been on trial with the reds and will sign on a free transfer after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

Boss Keith Hill was desperate to bolster his striking options following the injury to Mido and sees Harewood as a suitable replacement.

Harewood previously enjoyed a loan spell at Oakwell in 2010-11 where he netted 4 goals in 10 games.

I think this could be a good signing by Barnsley. At 32 he should still be able to cut it a t this level and he looked quite good the last time he was here.

Even if he flops, it was well worth the risk on a free transfer with Davies the only fit striker available.

I would not consider harewood a risk!

Harewood has a strike rate of around 1 in 3 as oppossed to Andy Gray’s 1 in 4.

Mido would be the fox in the box, however I fear he may spend 80% of his time at the well as the fox in the vets!

Davies could come of age in the championship and will hopefully learn from the experience hill has placed around him.
