Head coach Paul Heckingbottom and Josh Scowen have both given their thoughts following the victory over Fleetwood at the weekend.

With the two nil victory coming from a Joe Davis own goal before Scowen headed the second five minutes from time, Barnsley jumped back into the Play Off spots in the League One table and speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, Heckingbottom was obviously delighted with the response of the players in the game.

‘I`m really pleased with the result and a clean sheet away from home is massive, that`s what we`ve built a lot of our recent success on. We took advantage of a fortuitous first goal and made the most of it and as the game went on we got stronger and stronger. Adam Davies didn`t have a save to make second half. We would have liked a bit more quality in that respect but you can`t always do that. A clean sheet guarantees you a point before you’ve even started, goals don’t secure you points. Second half we came out wanting more quality with the same determination and work rate, which they showed throughout and we capitalized, the lads have their rewards for their efforts. The main thing is we did more than enough to win and maybe could`ve got a couple more goals as well.’

The gaffer went on to say that the recent upturn in performances, allied to the work ethic of the side was another pleasure for him as well.

‘The determination and the work rate has been the backbone of players` recent run of form. If you want to win trophies, titles or promotions that`s what you have to have and knowing how to see things out. We weren`t our most fluent with possession but that was certainly up there with one of our best performances out of possession.’

Of course it’s been a good season for turnarounds, being bottom of the table in December and now in the last Play Off spot and Heckingbottom is hoping to see that continue.

‘From where we were to where we are, the turnaround has been amazing but the hard work starts here and every game between now and the end of the season will be a battle. Teams are going to make us earn every point.’

As for Scowen’s own post game interview, he praised the squad for continuing to do the right thing as we keep ourselves in the mix for Championship football next season.

‘To come away with the three points is always nice. It was a tough game and the first half showed that, it was evens really. To be fair even when we went 1-0 up they still looked bright but lucky enough we carried on doing what we do and got the three points. Good teams can win in any way and we won ugly today which shows we`re a good team doing the right things. We`re solid at the back and kept another clean sheet and we`ve always got the players to do a bit of magic and get the goals.’

With limited game time and substitute appearances since returning from injury, Scowen went on to say he couldn’t really complain because of the form of others in the side.

‘It`s been tough but I can`t say much when we`ve got Conor and Browny playing the way they have been! All I`ve got to do is keep going and if my chance does come I need to try and take it. It`s a squad game, especially this Friday and Monday coming up I`m guessing the whole squad will be used for it, it`s a busy schedule but we`re fit young lads and we`ll give our best in both games.’
