Paul Heckingbottom is hoping Barnsley can build on the League Cup win over Morecambe at Oakwell with a first in the Championship against Ipswich.

However, he’s ready for a stern test.

Looking back to the dramatic 4-3 win over League Two side Morecambe, Heckingbottom doesn’t have any doubt the victory was one the Reds deserved and was especially pleased for Tom Bradshaw, it was just a shame he couldn’t collect the match ball with a hat trick.

He told the Official Website: ‘I felt we deserved the victory. We should have made it a lot more comfortable but in truth we showed some very good signs in an attacking sense. I was really pleased for Tom Bradshaw especially, he finished his chances well, although I know he’ll regret not getting the hat-trick!’

As much as the boss is happy to have successive games at Oakwell, which is always good from a fans’ perspective, clearly Heckingbottom wants to win on home soil too, ultimately he simply wants to win games.

‘It’s great to be at Oakwell again this weekend, for the fans too who get another chance to see the new lads in the squad. I don’t care where we get our wins from, home or away so long as we get them,’ said Heckingbottom.

Heckingbottom finished by saying how much of a danger Mick McCarthy’s side could be but he’s also aware of the areas Barnsley could hurt Ipswich. The boss has also been hopeful of adding players to the squad, which of course saw the arrivals of another two players ahead of the visit from the Tractor Boys.

He said: ‘Ipswich will provide a stern test as you’d expect from a Mick McCarthy side. We know where their threats are but then we know where we can hurt them too’

Concluding: ‘In terms of players we are still looking to add to the squad, we’re hopeful on three or four but these things take time. You can never speak with real certainty but we are close. We just have to keep pushing. We’ll get there.’
