The Mason Holgate saga is finally over as he joins Everton from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

According to the official website the fee is undisclosed but it exceeds the figure routinely reported in the press.

Is that the £1 million figure that has been routinely reported or the £500k figure that has been routinely reported?

A source of mine reckons we`ve got £1.9 million. I personally don`t think we will have got that much but if it`s true then I suppose it is decent enough money for an 18 year old that has only made 22 appearances.

We also retain a significant on-going financial interest in his career moving forward which is certainly a good thing.

Fans are mixed on their feelings towards Holgate but I would like to wish him all the best for the future and I hope he goes on to have a great career.

I don`t think you can really blame a young player for wanting to move when a bigger club comes knocking whether the incentive is to play at a higher level or whether it is just completely money driven. Most people do the same in any job or career that they have and football is no different.

People often question why players aren`t loyal to clubs. But why should they be? How loyal were we as a club to Hassell and Foster for the service they had given us? Clubs look out for number one and so should players.

I just hope that Holgate hasn`t made the mistake that a lot of players have in the past and left Barnsley too early and gone on to have a mediocre career.
