Brian Howard is looking forward to testing his mettle against the best the country has to offer this evening. Tonight the reds face Wigan Athletic in their first of two pre-season games at Oakwell.

Howard, 25, scored the last minute winner for Barnsley at Anfield in the F.A. Cup 5th round in February this year to knock out Liverpool 2-1, with the Tykes going on to defeat Chelsea at Oakwell 1-0 before eventually being knocked out in the semi-final at Wembley to Championship side Cardiff City.

Howard was at the centre of much attention from the media in the light of his displays against Premier League opposition with a possible move to the top flight being talked about throughout the close season.

Club captain, Howard, scored 14 goals from midfield for the Tykes last season including a hat trick in a 4-1 drubbing of Ipswich Town at Oakwell in March. Speaking to Barnsley`s official website, Howard said: “Wigan are obviously a Premier League side with some very, very good footballers. You always want to prove yourself against the teams in the top flight so it should be a great one for everybody.

Kick off at Oakwell this evening is at 7.30pm.
