It’s been a long wait for Barnsley’s big money signing, but with pre-season beginning in a few weeks time, Iain Hume can’t wait to get back into action with the rest of the squad.

After an horrific head injury caused by a disgraceful elbow from former Reds skipper Chris Morgan in November, Hume faced a huge rehabilitation process to get back to full fitness and in contention for a red shirt but now believes he is ready to run out with the first team.

Speaking to Barnsley World TV, Hume said ‘I’ve got a fresh start now, I’ve got to start over like I did last year and I’ve got a big point to prove to people.’

Hume was training with the first team for the last two months of the season and even wanted to play in the first team. He revealed ‘I told the manager he could bring my down to Plymouth and he could have me in the Wolves squad if he wanted. I just wanted to be involved. Obviously I wouldn’t have been as fit as the lads having played all the games but I definitely would have had the hunger that the lads had.’

Reds boss Simon Davey opted against using Hume in the final two games and fortunately picked up 4 vital points but Hume wants to be in his plans from the off this time.

On pre-season, Hume said ‘As soon as pre-season’s back I’m back. In my eyes and hopefully in the gaffer’s eyes I’m going to be a part of the squad for the games.’

The Reds kick off their pre-season campaign at Buxton on July 9th and it would be fantastic to see Iain Hume get a run out in a red shirt after such a long time on the sidelines.
