Iain Hume is set to sign on a three month loan deal to join fellow Championship club Preston North End.

Preston were rumoured to be interested in taking the striker on before the August transfer window closed but a deal couldn’t be struck at the eleventh hour.

The Canadian international was completely missing from the squad for tonight’s 5-2 home win over Leeds United and a deal looks set to be finalised in the next 48 hours.

Preston have also expressed an interest through their official site, in a permanent deal after the initial loan spell, which could pave the way out of Oakwell for the frustrated striker once and for all.

I will be sad to see Hume leave the club. He has been through an infamously turbulent time at Barnsley and he has endeared himself to the supporters.

With nine goals in just 34 starts, I don’t believe he has been given a fair chance of success at the club, but in the end the decision lies with Mark Robins and he obviously doesn’t believe Hume is worth holding on to.
