New manager Lee Johnson is up and running as gaffer having collected his first win and three points since coming into Oakwell late last week.

A second half goal from Waring gave our new man the perfect start to life having left Oldham, and speaking to the Official Site following the full time whistle he was obviously pleased with the result at the weekend.

‘I’m delighted. Victory away from home and a clean sheet it’s the perfect result. I thought the boys were fantastic, very spirited. It was difficult, blowing a gale and against a side that were really in form and we had to come here and do a job. I thought the midfield five worked their socks off. George worked really hard up front and got his rewards wit the goal.’

Johnson goes on to say that we needed to play with that tempo at Priestfield because we had to be on the front foot and push them back as opposed to letting them dictate the pace of the game because they do have talented players and if we let them have their own way he felt they’d have made us pay.

‘We had players in their stealing the ball. We had three or four really good opportunities on the break and we should have capitalised a bit more on them. And of course against a good side like that the keeper needs to pull you out of it in the last couple of minutes and he did. I haven’t been here long but the lads have put in some spirited performances in the last couple of games and did so again.’

With the win bouncing us up the league a little, it’s a bright start and we have to hope things continue to look rosy over the coming games.

Having praised Adam Davies, Johnson went on to say.

‘What we did really well and I was pleased with is that we went from a position of strength, recognised the triggers in the opposition and capitalised. Pearson was superb, Hourihane worked his socks off as well as Scowen. Not only did they shuffle and get behind the ball, but they broke very quickly as well. It’s a good win, but let’s not get too excited. There’s a lot more to come, but the good thing is we have seen the spirit.’
