Manager Lee Johnson and on loan Kevin Long give their thoughts following the two one victory over Oldham at the weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site in his post game press conference, Johnson couldn’t have been more delighted to have taken victory over his former side – especially as it brought an end to our poor run of results.

‘I`m delighted and very emotional. We deserved it. We could have been 3-0 up early on, but I’m chuffed to bits. In fairness I have to thank the owner for sticking with it and supporting me when I needed it with players coming in. We`re in a false position. We have a good squad. We need to back it up with wins now and I thank everyone for their continued support through what`s been a difficult situation.’

Johnson went on to say that Kevin Long more than deserved his goal on the day for his efforts.

‘Kevin Long deserved his goal – he was fantastic today. He`s had eight months out and come back strong and aggressive. Overall I’m well pleased and we deserved it. It`s been hard on us. We haven`t deserved to lose this many. We are where we are and I`ve spent many long, lonely nights working out what to do. We could have lost that game as previously we`ve dominated and not taken our chances, but today we didn`t. I`ve seen my old man go through similar, I know people were asking for my head but the fans were singing my name and singing for the team today. The away support has been fantastic, I thank them a lot.’

Johnson went on to admit it’s only one result in our favour but it’s important, it’s a relief and it should lift confidence and hopefully now this will be the corner turned and we can get ourselves on an unbeaten run if not a winning run to make up for a bit of lost time.

‘It`s only one result but it`s important. We build for the next one, we are in games and we will get chances, we just need to cut out the silly mistakes. We haven`t been getting away with them. The last two games we`ve been decent but we had indidividual errors. The two lads who came in did well. We`ll go into Tuesday with refreshed confidence. To get that win is a big relief.’

Having arrived from Burnley earlier in the week, Long was making his debut in the match and he knows it couldn’t have gone much better with him getting the late winner on the day.

‘We dominated first half and had a lot of chances. We should have been two or three nil up. In the second half we expected their reaction and we ended up camped in our box a little bit, it was hectic. I thought we showed good character to carry on playing once they scored and we deserved the win.’

As for his own goal, he went on to joke.

‘I`m just a clinical finisher! I reacted quickest and got the finish in. We just kept going and got the winner. I`ll try my best to do my bit but everyone will join in together and we`ll work well as a team.’

With him having eight months on the sidelines before returning to fitness, the centre half ended his interview by explaining.

‘I was buzzing to be back out there. I was delighted just to warm up, hearing the roar from the fans was amazing. It`s been too long without games, so I`m buzzing to be back. I`m already looking forward to Tuesday. I`ve seen the lads in training and we just needed a bit of luck. Everyone is really positive, I`ve spoke to the lads and they said they could have won a few of the games we lost. We`re still up for it and fighting, that showed today and we got the victory.’
