Manager Lee Johnson has made his first two signings as manager of Barnsley today, and we see the arrival of a Cardiff defender and a Colchester striker.

First up we have Cardiff City left back Declan John coming into Oakwell on a loan spell that will last until the end of the season, with an agreement already in place that it can be extended past May 3 if we reach the play offs.

The 19 year old has made 35 off appearances for Cardiff since coming through their Academy set up, and last season he made 20 appearances in the Premier League following their promotion.

He also arrives having represented Wales at every level from under 17 right through to the full side, as he made his senior debut against Macedonia back in October 2013.

Speaking to the Official Site Johnson said of the capture of the left back.

‘He`s young, but he`s a Wales international and played 20 Premier League games for Cardiff last year so he is reasonably experienced. Declan is very dynamic and very good on the ball and will give us good competition and bring George Smith on as well. We need a left sider, he can play wide left which is really another box I felt needed ticking and giving us a bit of natural balance. If anything happened to George it means you have got Nyatanga in left back and I don`t really like my centre halves having to play left or right back.’

The other incoming of the day was 32 year old Jabo Ibehre who moves to us on a loan spell until the end of the season also from Colchester United.

The player was on loan at Oldham Athletic recently, so he joins up once more with the gaffer and his spell expires on May 3.

Having played in over 500 games during his career so far he will bring a lot of experience to the group.

Johnson said of his capture.

‘I felt we needed the option to go two up front. Obviously we have got Sam Winnall and George Waring who have done really well, but I wanted to have both clubs in my bag as far as two big lads who can get onto the ball, be aggressive in both boxes and a bit of a foil for our other strikers to play off. I couldn`t risk George either not making it through the amount of games because he is a young lad or not having one. It`s important for the way we play and the way I want to play. Jabo is a good lad, experienced in the division and the best option available and a decent signing for our squad. I had him at Oldham at the start of the year and he is a very good professional. Any senior players we bring into the club have got to be guys who do their extra training, look after themselves properly and eat well because I want them to set an example to the other players and Jabo is a very good example of that.’

Leroy Lita has also headed out of Oakwell on a loan spell of his own, and he’s moved to Meadow Lane and Notts County for the remainder of the season.

The striker joined us back in August 2014, and has made a total of 24 appearances, with a return of two goals.
