Manager Lee Johnson has said that he felt Barnsley deserved at least a point from the weekend’s match against Wigan Athletic.

Losing the game two nil, a disappointed gaffer told the Official Site in his post game press conference, that he had been delighted with the way we started the game but we couldn’t get the goal we needed at that time.

‘I`m obviously disappointed not to get a result. I thought in the first 20 minutes we really took the game to them and came out strong. They beat us on the day fair and square and it`s not acceptable, you can never accept losing at home but sometimes you have to appreciate the opposition had got the better of us, just like we did them a fortnight ago. I thought our lads gave it a really good go, we didn`t quite have the quality on the day but I thought the game became too stretched for both teams and whoever scored first would make it easier to stay compact. We were disappointed to concede but we didn`t quite produce on the day.’

With Wigan’s second goal on the day killing it as an encounter, Johnson said he was disappointed with the defending at that moment as we effectively switched off and could’ve avoided it.

‘It was a poor decision and there are no excuses for that goal. Even if there were we should play to the whistle. It`s an individual error. When we concede a goal like that it frustrates people, no one more so than me. But I`m still positive that we can turn it around.’

With quick games over the festive period now, Johnson’s focus is on seeing Barnsley get back on track and hopefully picked up some quick crucial points in the coming games.

‘There are always big games and they are ones where if we put the right performance in then we can pick up points. It`s always disappointing when we lose at home but it might help us playing away in the next game and we`ll go to Bury looking to pick up maximum points.’
