A fourth successive defeat was suffered by Barnsley when Walsall left with the points in midweek following a two-nil win at Oakwell.

Second half goal from the recently arrived, earlier that day, Man City loanee Evans and, as was bound to happen, former Barnsley man Lalkovic saw Walsall leave with the points to retain 2nd place and leave the Reds struggling and looking for some form, certainly a result, after dropping to 19th as a result.

The other results this midweek were as follows:-

Tuesday 20th October
Barnsley 0-2 Walsall
Blackpool 1-1 Millwall
Bradford 2-1 Bury
Burton 0-0 Crewe
Chesterfield 3-0 Southend
Colchester 2-1 Port Vale
Gillingham 2-1 Scunthorpe
Peterborough 2-3 Wigan
Rochdale 0-0 Coventry
Sheff Utd 3-0 Fleetwood
Shrewsbury 1-2 Doncaster
Swindon 1-2 Oldham

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Bradford, Chesterfield Doncaster and Oldham really?

A long unbeaten run for Bury, both away and in general, was ended by Bradford who continued their recent improvement with a two-one win secured by the Bantams as they maintain their recent moves in the right direction.

Chesterfield followed up a weekend win over the then league leaders Walsall but another impressive win against an inform Southend side, with the Spireites running out three-nil winners at the Proact Stadium!

In all honesty wins for Doncaster and Oldham, at Shrewsbury and Swindon respectively, weren’t that surprising as such as these were battled between ‘struggling’ sides of late with the away sides both winning two-one on Tuesday.

Barnsley are back in action this weekend of course with another game against Fleetwood, which is also at Oakwell, on Saturday.
