Barnsley secured a three-two win over Colchester in League 1 on Saturday, with the Reds holding off a fightback from the home side having been three-up.

Conor Hourihane had Barnsley ahead early on with Adam Hammill adding the second before the break when he celebrated his new deal with a goal. When Ivan Toney headed in the third on the hour that should have been that!

However, George Moncur got Colchester back into the game with Chris Porter getting a second three-minutes later but the U’s couldn’t find an equaliser as the Reds held on for an important three-points.

These were the other results.

Saturday 12th December 2015
Bradford P-P Southend
Bury 1-0 Chesterfield
Colchester 2-3 Barnsley
Doncaster 3-2 Crewe
Fleetwood P-P Walsall
Gillingham 0-3 Burton
Oldham P-P Millwall
Peterborough 1-1 Shrewsbury
Port Vale 1-1 Scunthorpe
Swindon 2-1 Rochdale
Wigan 0-1 Blackpool

Sunday 13th December 2015
Sheff Utd 1-0 Coventry

Looking at these results, with some postponements seen, the stand out ones have to be the wins for Burton, Blackpool and Sheffield United.

As league leaders Burton beating promotion rivals Gillingham isn’t too surprising as such but to win three-nil having lost boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to QPR a few days earlier was a stunning reaction.

But Blackpool recording a shock one-nil win at Wigan (who rarely lose let alone at home) at the DW stadium tops that!

Many wouldn’t be surprised by Sheffield United beating Coventry as such, but given the form the Blades have been on of late (compared to the Sky Blues) this one-nil win at Bramall Lane is something of a surprise.

Barnsley are back in action at the weekend when Wigan come to Oakwell.
