The positive, albeit it in a five-three defeat, thoughts from the Everton League Cup defeat suffered by Barnsley in midweek prior didn’t get carried forward by the Reds to Rochdale at Spotland last weekend did they!

An afternoon to forget saw Barnsley beaten three-nil thanks to goals from Andrew (8) and Vincenti (36) in the first half and a third from Henderson (63) in the second.

The other results last weekend were as follows:-

Monday 31st August
Blackpool 0 – 4 Walsall
Bradford 1 – 0 Port Vale
Bury 1 – 1 Oldham
Colchester 2 – 2 Scunthorpe
Doncaster 2 – 0 Fleetwood
Millwall 0 – 2 Chesterfld
Peterboro 1 – 1 Gillingham
Rochdale 3 – 0 Barnsley
Shrewsbury 0 – 1 Burton Alb
Swindon 0 – 2 Sheff Utd
Wigan 1 – 0 Crewe

Monday 31st August
Coventry 2 – 2 Southend

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Walsall, Burton and sadly from our point of view Rochdale!

Walsall beating Blackpool isn’t exactly a surprise as such as Blackpool are in disarray aren’t they! The Saddlers are flying at the moment so this win, as said, isn’t a surprise but to come away from Bloomfield Road with a four-nil win is a fine result.

Finally, Burton’s transition into League 1 is continuing really well. Shrewsbury have struggled this season at the moment but the Brewers could sense back-to-back promotions and if Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side can keep picking up wins, like this one-nil at Greenhous Meadow you wouldn’t rule it out would you….

Barnsley, following a midweek win over Scunthorpe in the JPT, are back in action this weekend with a League 1 game against Shrewsbury at Oakwell.
