Barnsley are consistent, you can’t say they aren’t! But this consistency in a losing streak isn’t wanted with a two-nil loss against Scunthorpe at Glanford Park made it six defeats in a row.

The host, literally, were gifted the lead by ‘keeper Townsend’s mistake with Hopper scoring the opener early on. McSheffrey added the second just before half time to secure the points.

Winnall, against his former side, saw a penalty saved by Daniels to compound the misery!

The other results at the weekend were as follows:-

Saturday 31st October
Bury 4-3 Blackpool
Coventry 3-2 Peterborough
Crewe 1-0 Sheff Utd
Doncaster 2-0 Colchester
Fleetwood 0-1 Chesterfield
Millwall 0-0 Bradford
Oldham 0-1 Burton
Port Vale 2-0 Shrewsbury
Scunthorpe 2-0 Barnsley
Southend 2-2 Rochdale
Walsall 3-2 Gillingham
Wigan 1-0 Swindon

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Bury, Crewe and Walsall.

Many would have expected, at least anticipated a Bury win against Blackpool so the outcome isn’t exactly surprising but this was a seven-goal thriller with the Shakers seeing of the Tangerines four-three to get back on track at Gigg Lane.

Crewe wouldn’t have been expected to beat Sheffield United but the bottom side dealt the Blades’ promotion hopes a blow with a surprise one-nil win at Gresty Road, which boosts the Alex’s survival chances.

The result of the weekend saw the top two battle at the Banks’s Stadium with Walsall ending up stunning Gillingham, who had been two-nil up to come back and score a late winner with the Saddlers going top with a three-two win.

Barnsley are, of course back in action with another League 1 game against Coventry at the Ricoh Arena tonight in a, you suspect, make or break game for the Head Coach….
