A Barnsley lead was lost with Southend coming from behind to win two-one at Roots Hall on Saturday to condemn the Reds to another defeat, which we’ll seek a reaction to against Walsall.

Scowen (24), after Southend ‘keeper Bentley fouled Watkins, took and scored a penalty to put Barnsley ahead but Southend were level through Wordsworth (36) with a Prosser (43) goal just before the break sealing the Reds’ fate.

The other results this weekend were as follows:-

Saturday 17th October
Bury 0-0 Rochdale
Coventry 0-0 Blackpool
Crewe 0-1 Gillingham
Doncaster 0-1 Bradford
Fleetwood 4-0 Burton
Millwall 2-0 Swindon
Oldham 1-1 Sheff Utd
Port Vale 1-1 Peterborough
Scunthorpe 2-1 Shrewsbury
Southend 2-1 Barnsley
Walsall 1-2 Chesterfield
Wigan 5-0 Colchester

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Fleetwood, Chesterfield and Wigan.

A Burton win would have been expected at Fleetwood, given the standings of both, but defeat in the game prior wasn’t responded too with the Cod Army, with Steven Pressley securing a first win as boss, inflicting a second successive defeat on the Brewers with them thrashed four-nil at the Highbury Stadium.

The win over Burton in the round of games prior saw Walsall takeover at the top of the League 1 table but that place was lost when the Saddlers were stunned by Chesterfield who went away from the Banks’s Stadium with a two-one win with Gillingham taking top spot with the win they secured.

Wigan beating Colchester wasn’t a surprise really but the manner of the five-nil win at the DW Stadium perhaps was with the Latics inflicting the latest defeat on the U’s and securing a fine home win in the process.

Barnsley are of course back in action this midweek, tonight in fact, with a home game against Walsall at Oakwell as the Reds look for a reaction.
