As we know we’ve sold (more than one) highly rated footballer to Everton in the past but we’ve also seen players come the other way with Callum Connolly the latest to do this when we secured him on loan.

Connolly, brought in for an initial month, could well come in for his debut against Walsall tomorrow with the Everton man scheduled to stay with us until the JPT final against Oxford. His scheduled return date to the Premier League side is Sunday 3rd April, which I assume would mean his loan is inclusive of that Wembley date?

The 18-year-old is ‘exactly’ what we needed at this point in time according to caretaker head coach Paul Heckingbottom, who told the Official Website.

‘Callum is exactly the type of player we were looking for. We’re excited to have him here. I’m sure he will help our cause.’

Capable of playing at full back, on either side, or in midfielder he’ll offer us some good flexibility in the positions he can play for the length of his loan, which all being well will be a win-win for all concerned as we move into the play-off positions!

Heckingbottom finished by thanking Everton, who we have ‘a good relationship’ with, for this short-term deal.

‘We have a good relationship with Everton. They have entrusted us with one of their highly-rated youngsters. We’re both confident that this is the perfect environment for him to begin his professional career.’
