Believe it or not, but after just two full seasons at the club, Luke Steele is one of the old guard now at Barnsley.

With loyalty to clubs from players at an all time low thanks to mercenary agents touting their commodities with no regard for the football club or it’s supporters, it’s rare that a footballer will sign a second contract at a club these days.

Luke Steele has penned an extension to his deal however, keeping him at Barnsley until the summer of 2013.

The former Manchester United ‘keeper is 5th in the list of current Barnsley footballers in terms of club appearances, with 96.

Monday saw Steele notch up his 100th point as a Barnsley player, with a win over Coventry City. It was Steele’s 87th league appearance for the Reds and although he didn’t keep his 22nd clean sheet for us, he did well to keep us in the game and help the team to hang on for the win.

Here’s to a hundred more!
