The Sheffield Star was right, they had been reporting earlier today they expected a loan deal to go through to bring Ashley Fletcher to Barnsley and that’s exactly what’s happened.

After the Reds recently released Simeon Jackson and Swindon and Bolton loanees Michael Smith and Conor Wilkinson returning to their parent clubs Fletcher will boost Lee Johnson’s options with his arrival confirmed.

Having completed his loan he told the Official Website he didn’t have to think twice about the move and has already enjoyed his first training session.

‘I’m buzzing to be here. I’ve come to get some league experience and help improve the team. I’m looking forward to this weekend. Fleetwood are a good side and it will be a good test but with the quality we’ve got here, I’m sure we can do the business. Having trained with the lads this morning, I can see the quality that they bring to the Club.’

20-year-old Fletcher wasn’t expected to come into Louis van Gaal’s plans in the immediate future with this loan giving him some first-team experience, which given the positive relationship with Man United in recent times isn’t a surprise to see him come to Oakwell.

I can’t say I know anything about him to be honest but he’s highly rated by all accounts and has impressed in the United U21 side with him signed until 6th February with him available for a debut in the JPT area final this weekend.
